Q & A

I received some enquiries from parents, I thought it will be good to share here as well:

Q1: Are there different time slots?
Ans: At the moment, these are the time slots available. If there is demand for a certain time slot, I will be more than happy to consider having that.

Q2: Beside the tuition fees, are there any other fees/charges?
Ans: There is no other charge/fees, beside the tuition fee as shown. However, I will recommend parents to buy additional enrichment/assessment materials from Popular Bookstore, depending on the particular needs of the child. If parents require me to buy on behalf, I will produce Popular receipt. Tuition fees are payable in advance, on the first lesson of the month.

Q3: What if there is a need to reschedule class? (E.g. Medical leave, Public Holiday and etc.)
Ans: I will try to adhere to the time slots as far as possible. If there is a need, I will reschedule a class to another time. If rescheduling is not possible in the near future, I will refund the fees for that particular lesson.

Q4: Do I need to bring anything on the first lesson?
Ans: In order to carry out effective intervention, I will need to assess the child's academic performance in school. These are the things that will help:

a. Past years result
b. SA1 and SA2 result
c. Compositions done in 2012 (and before, if available)
d. Any assessment/reference books at home
e. Chinese file (Chinese assessment/activity done in 2012)

Q5: What if my child is not able to catch up with the other students in the group?
Ans: I will go arrange for 1-to-1 tutoring with the child at no extra charge. Once they are ready, they will rejoin the main group.

Samples of my worksheets

I place great importance to language and thinking skills, so I self-design worksheets as these materials are simply not available in the market. These materials will supplement TCEP assessment book. These are samples for P5 Chapter 1 《可贵的沉默》.

I will be using this Assessment Book - "TCEP" by Confucius Institute

Update on 14 Nov 2014: I will not be using this series of assessment books w.e.f. 2015.

I have come across many many assessment books, and I must say this is one of the most serious and professional assessment book available in the market. I will be using this assessment book in my tuition class and together with my own self-designed worksheets, these will provide tremendous boost in your child's learning of the Chinese language.

TCEP Primary Chinese Series is based on the latest edition of the Primary School Chinese Curriculum developed by the Ministry of Education, Singapore. It combines the unique pedagogy of the Top Chinese Enrichment Programme (TCEP) of Confucius Institute, NTU, along with input from various sources, to offer a set of complimentary enrichment materials that can be used in tandem with the school curriculum.
This series comprises six levels and is divided into two volumes. This first volume consists of 12 exercises that correspond to the 12 lessons in the school textbook, and comes with two comprehensive review tests. Each exercise is made up of four fun and engaging sections: Fun with Vocabulary, Let’s Practise, Culture Corner and I Can Do.

Small Group Home Tuition

This is the flyer that I designed as I have always wanted to explore how to go about doing so. Not perfect, but quite satisfying. I printed the minimum 1,000 copies and distributed some around my block. The response was surprisingly quite good.
